At our Primary School in Trichy, students from Grade 1 to 5 experience an inquiry-led IB Primary Years Programme that weaves strong academics with communication, research, self-management and social skills. Organised around six transdisciplinary themes and enriched through real-world projects, it nurtures independent, caring learners who respect their school and wider community.
Exploring the world
The Units of Inquiry (UOI) is the core of the PYP, where learning happens through a transdisciplinary and inquiry-based approach. Learners explore real-life concepts and global issues by making meaningful connections across subjects, guided by key concepts and lines of inquiry.
Learners at TIPS Trichy embark on a journey through six transdisciplinary themes of the IB Primary Years Programme:
Through these themes, Units of Inquiry weave together subject areas, helping students build deep understanding, core skills and a strong learner profile across all areas of school life.
Understanding the world through numbers and patterns
Mathematics in the PYP is taught through inquiry and real-life contexts, helping learners see how mathematical ideas explain the world around them.
Students explore number, pattern, measurement, shape and data through problem-solving, investigations and hands-on activities, developing logical thinking, reasoning and confidence in applying maths to everyday situations.
Building confident communicators for a global world
English focuses on developing strong communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening through meaningful and authentic contexts. Learners engage in activities such as debates, TED-style presentations and Model United Nations (MUN), building confidence in public speaking, critical thinking and persuasive communication.
Language learning is integrated across the curriculum, enabling students to express ideas effectively and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Growing as multilingual and culturally aware learners
At our Primary School in Trichy, second language learning supports multilingualism and cultural understanding.
Through interactive activities such as storytelling, conversations, reading and writing, learners develop their ability to communicate in Tamil and Hindi while appreciating different cultures and perspectives. The programme builds confidence in using the language in meaningful, everyday contexts.
Developing responsible and innovative digital citizens
ICT in the PYP focuses on nurturing learners as responsible, ethical and creative users of technology. Students use digital tools to research, collaborate and present their learning, while practising safe and respectful online behaviour.
Technology is integrated across the curriculum to enhance inquiry, innovation and real-world problem solving.
Designing, creating and solving real-world problems
DTTE encourages learners to think like designers and innovators through hands-on, inquiry-based projects. Students create their own problem statements and develop models or prototypes as solutions, applying creativity and critical thinking.
They also participate in competitions where they showcase their ideas and innovations, building confidence, collaboration and practical design skills.
Expressing ideas and emotions through art, music and drama
Visual and Performing Arts are a vital part of holistic development. Learners explore visual art, music and drama through activities that help them express their ideas, emotions and creativity with confidence.
At our Primary School in Trichy, they have opportunities to participate in art exhibitions, compose and write their own songs and perform in drama productions, fostering creativity, collaboration and an appreciation for diverse artistic forms.
Building healthy, balanced and resilient individuals
PSPE is integrated within the PYP to support students’ physical, social and emotional development. Learners engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including structured physical education sessions and swimming, to build fitness, teamwork and resilience.
After-school sports programmes offer additional opportunities to develop skills, pursue interests and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Students are empowered to achieve their potential through a comprehensive approach to academic growth. Each student benefits from a personal learning plan tailored to their strengths and goals, with progress tracked through regular report cards, benchmark testing, and standardised assessments.
These tools provide valuable feedback, celebrate achievements, and ensure every learner receives the support and challenge needed to excel. By focusing on individual progress and growth, students build confidence, resilience and a strong foundation for future academic success.
At our Primary School in Trichy, students’ life competencies are intentionally embedded into daily learning so that personal growth develops alongside academic progress. Through inquiry-based experiences under the IB Primary Years Programme, learners build strong communication, social, thinking, research and self-management skills while being guided by the IB Learner Profile.
Age-appropriate leadership opportunities such as class roles, assemblies, student-led conferences, the Junior MUN, Market Day initiatives and other student-led events create space to practise decision-making, teamwork, public speaking and ethical leadership in authentic contexts. These experiences are complemented by ISP life competencies programmes and community engagement activities, helping Primary learners develop self-leadership, global awareness and social-emotional resilience from an early age.
Primary students learn in an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary environment where language development is integrated across all subjects. English is the main medium of instruction and students strengthen their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through Units of Inquiry, projects and presentations.
From Grade 1, all students study English alongside a second language (Tamil or Hindi). Through structured lessons and meaningful tasks, they learn to read age-appropriate texts and identify key ideas, write simple paragraphs and short stories with growing control of grammar and vocabulary and participate in class discussions, group work and student-led conferences.
Language learning also extends beyond the classroom through cultural celebrations, inter-house events, assemblies and Student-Led Conferences, helping students become confident and open-minded communicators.
At our Primary School in Trichy, students’ international connections are woven into everyday learning from the early years onwards. Through active ISP ILOS virtual exchange programmes, they join synchronous and asynchronous projects with peers across ISP campuses worldwide, sharing perspectives, practising languages and collaborating on global themes in real time.
ISP ILOS experiences – including international Chess Championships and global Writers and Artists Programmes – further strengthen strategic thinking, creativity and intercultural dialogue.
Outbound experiential learning, with curriculum-linked exchanges, field trips and journeys guided by the Outbound Learning team, extends this international mindset into the real world, building adaptability, independence, confidence and a deep appreciation of both local identity and global citizenship.
Starting from Grade 3, students begin exploring academic challenges beyond the classroom by taking part in selected National and International Olympiads. With guidance from teachers, they engage in subjects such as Mathematics, Science and English, building confidence and curiosity from an early age.
Cambridge Camtree "Read Aloud" programme
TIPS School Trichy has been chosen to run the first-ever pilot of the Cambridge Camtree “Read Aloud” programme, giving Primary learners a powerful platform to grow. Through rich stories and daily read-aloud sessions, they practise listening closely, sharing their ideas, asking deeper questions and responding to others with empathy. This simple, joyful routine helps them become more curious, confident communicators who can think aloud, reflect on different perspectives and connect what they read to their own lives and the wider world.
Junior MUN leaders
Our inter-school Junior Model United Nations (MUN), designed exclusively for Grades 3 – 5, introduces young delegates to global issues and diplomacy through structured debates and collaborative discussions. As they prepare position papers, negotiate resolutions and speak in front of their peers, students build confidence, learn to listen thoughtfully and develop strong problem-solving skills, laying a powerful foundation for future leadership.
TEDxYouth spotlight
Our annual TEDxYouth summit is a flagship platform where passionate learners step onto a global stage to share ideas that matter. In front of peers, families and the wider community, they craft and deliver talks that showcase their growth as thoughtful thinkers and confident communicators, turning personal insights into powerful messages of inspiration and change.
Student-led learning showcases
At our Primary School in Trichy, three times a year, families step into the classroom as children lead the way. In student-led showcase days and conferences, they present their Units of Inquiry, portfolios and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, explain their thinking and reflect on their progress, celebrating how they’ve grown and taking real ownership of their achievements.
Primary & Early DTTE foundations
In Grades 3 – 5, Design Thinking, Technology and Engineering Education (DTTE) introduces students to coding, robotics and design thinking through engaging, age-appropriate experiences. Learners explore technology in a fun, practical way by programming Codey Rocky robots, creating interactive Micro:bit projects and trying basic engineering drawing and 3D modelling. Alongside digital skills, students also take part in hands-on projects such as hydroponics models, zero-waste systems and carpentry activities. These early DTTE experiences spark curiosity, build creativity and grow confidence, creating a strong foundation for more advanced learning in later years.
