By Grade 8, they confidently sit for the rigorous Cambridge Checkpoint examinations, which benchmark their performance against global standards and prepare them for the demands of IGCSE.
In our Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum, students strengthen self‑regulation, collaboration, communication and social skills, along with a strong sense of responsibility.
Through challenges, group work and co‑curricular experiences such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics clubs, visual and performing arts, community service and TED‑Ed style talks, students apply learning in real contexts.
By leading Student‑Led Showcase Days and reflecting on their progress, students grow into analytical, confident and compassionate learners, ready for the demands of Upper Secondary School.
In Lower Secondary, English remains the main language of instruction as learners deepen academic literacy through reading complex texts, writing structured essays and reports, and taking part in debates, presentations and collaborative projects.
Alongside English, multilingual fluency is strengthened with Tamil and Hindi, and with French introduced from Grades 6 – 8, so that reading, writing, speaking and listening develop across multiple languages.
Through exposure to literary and non-fiction texts, cultural activities, inter-house programmes and school events, language becomes a tool to analyse ideas, connect with different perspectives and prepare for Cambridge Checkpoint and later IGCSE.
In Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum, students access rich international experiences through ISP International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS). Virtual exchange programmes connect them in real time with peers from ISP schools worldwide, allowing them to collaborate on projects, share perspectives on global issues and practise intercultural communication.
Learning also moves beyond the classroom through Outbound Learning (OBL) – curriculum-linked educational field trips and experiential visits planned by the Outbound Learning Team. These trips are mapped to units of study, helping students apply concepts in real-world contexts while developing independence, adaptability and a deeper sense of global citizenship.
Students extend their academic interests by participating in National and International Olympiads across subjects including Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science and Computer Science. Teachers guide them in their preparation, helping them develop deeper knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Our Future Pathways programme supports Lower Secondary students in beginning to explore future study and career pathways in a gradual and age-appropriate way. CGPS sessions help students connect their broad and balanced curriculum with real-world applications and emerging interests. Alongside enrichment opportunities such as STEM clubs, competitive sports, visual and performing arts and TED-Ed talks, these guidance sessions encourage self-awareness, goal-setting and reflection.
As a result, students start to understand how their strengths, passions and developing life competencies such as self-leadership, adaptability, collaboration and resilience can shape their future academic choices and long-term pathways, laying a strong foundation before they transition into Upper Secondary.
Student-Led Showcase Days
Student‑Led Showcase Days give Lower Secondary learners the stage to present projects, portfolios and enrichment work to their families, reflect on progress and set new goals, building ownership, confidence and strong communication skills.
Lower Secondary DTTE
In Grades 6 – 8, students strengthen their skills in Design Thinking, Technology and Engineering Education through practical, hands-on learning. They explore robotics, coding and engineering by programming robots, working with sensors, using CyberPi and developing 3D models and circuit simulations. Students also apply their learning to real-world challenges through projects such as smart city, zero-waste and hydroponics, and showcase their ideas through the Innovators Summit and Open Day Expo. These experiences build logical thinking, creativity, teamwork and early engineering skills.
At TIPS Trichy, learning is interactive and engaging. Activities and projects help me understand concepts better and build confidence in expressing my ideas.
